Тип финансового мошенничества, денежная схема, с помощью которой в разные времена и в разных странах удавалось обманывать множество людей, жаждущих быстрого и легкого обогащения. Согласно определению Минфина, финансовая пирамида является организацией, которая привлекает финансы или имущество граждан с обещанием доходов, которые выплачиваются не в результате предпринимательской или банковской деятельности, а из ранее поступивших средств. Обещая необычно высокие проценты и выдавая соответствующие «гарантии», например, в виде «ценных бумаг», квитанций и т.п., организаторы пирамиды выполняют свои обязательства до тех пор, пока число вкладчиков и «инвестируемых» ими денег быстро растет. Но как только этот рост замедляется и прекращается, пирамида рушится, разоряя миллионы людей. Во многих странах за организацию финансовых пирамид предусмотрено уголовное наказание. По-видимому, одной из первых крупных операцией такого рода была т.н. схема Понзи (или Понци) на Западе. В России наибольшее распространение они приобрели в 90-годы, в условиях экономического хаоса, характерного для начального этапа рыночных реформ. Их названия — МММ (Сергея Мавроди), «Властилина», «Русский дом Селенга» и другие, люди помнят до сих пор. В то время они не прислушивались к предупреждениям грамотных экономистов, раздававшимся во всех средствах массовой информации, и пострадали… См. также Государственные краткосрочные обязательства, ГКО
